Thank you so much! I am pretty stunned myself...but I have no illusions about why the book is doing so well. You can attribute the success to a) front of store placement, which my publisher paid for and b) a hit TV series that reaches millions of people every week and c) the huge promotional and marketing campaign that accompanies the premiere of the series and release of the latest DVD boxed set (which contains an ad for the book).

Congratulations, Lee! Here's to seeing it on many more lists!
Posted by:Jan Burke | Friday, July 21, 2006 at 06:31 PM
Dear Lee:
Congatulations on making the list! That always has to be gratifying! I picked up both Monk books at the Barnes & Noble in Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade where they had a standie just inside the doorway featuring autographed copies of the "Mr. Monk Goes To Hawaii" book. By Wednesday it was gone because they sold out of their copies. So, yes, B&N is visibly doing their promotion in your favor.
The books are definite page-turners meant to satisfy the reader, which I testify delivers this implied promise. Unfortunately, the very nature of the series may also attract the anal-retentive reader like I am who wonders if you didn't mean "SFO" rather than "LAX" on page 25 of "Hawaii" and who are completely thrown by the concept of Adrian Monk holding a glass of milk on page 92 of "Firehouse."
...Have I mentioned that these books sincerely are still worth full price to your readership?
Posted by:Troy Z | Friday, July 21, 2006 at 08:15 PM
You caught the two mistakes that make me cringe every time I'm reminded of them...
The "milk" one got past both me and MONK creator Andy Breckman.
I caught the "LAX" error long before publication (it showed up in the teaser chapter at the end of of MR. MONK GOES TO THE FIREHOUSE) and yet it STILL somehow didn't get corrected.
Ah well, these things happen. I'm just glad it didn't detract from your enjoyment of the books.

Exactly! These Things Happen! I look at your respectable track record in writing and I Let It Slide!
I just note how difficult it must be for ANYONE catering to a preexisting fanbase, let alone for one that may be particularly predisposed to prickly sticklerism. Your readers wish you all the best in your reception of royalties, and likewise to the creative team at the "Monk" television series.

At the Barnes & Nobles in Naples, Florida for the past two weeks there was a special table display featuring Mr Monk Goes to Hawaii with several of the earlier titles from the series also on the table.
